I have been helping families buy and own real estate since 2005. And this much I have discovered since then: The old (but current) way of buying and owning homes served a purpose. But we need to rethink home ownership for a new generation. In an entirely new way.
Americans now owe $13 trillion in outstanding mortgage debt, but even worse, we spend over $430 billion per year on servicing our collective national mortgage debt with interest payments. Let that number sink in! That’s $430 billion that could go to creating more wealth and legacy for our families. But we blindly send it to the banks thinking that’s the only way things can work. What’s even more troublesome is that over 60% of retirees enter their 60’s with a traditional mortgage.
